As an organization, we have held an annual “Shop With a Kappa” event here in the Greater Portland area during the Christmas holidays for the past four years.   This is an activity in which we host the youth from our adopted STEM education focused, non-profit organization, “Building Blocks to Success,” on a Saturday afternoon shopping trip during the Christmas holiday season.  We provide the funds ($30 to $50 each) for them to shop, as well push their shopping carts, and keep the running total of their selected items.  What we have observed year after year is that the youth normally do not shop for themselves, but they use this unique opportunity to buy Christmas gifts for their loved ones.
